Archaeological excavations were undertaken close to the where the new northern roundabout will be location to prepare for upcoming works. In April and May 2020 Cotswold Archaeology’s excavation identified an Iron Age ditch which is in turn surrounded by a larger Iron Age ditch which extends under the A140 itself, these ditches produced a range of pottery pieces. These excavations also found a number of large modern pits which are probably linked to Eye Airfield’s construction during World War Two.
